Lotus seems to have reached the point where much of its time is spent releasing special edition models of its existing lineup (rather than adding anything new). Before this Exige 350 came the Elise 250 and the Evora 400 Hethel, to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary.
Yes, the year is coming to an end all too quickly … and that also means that we can look forward to an evening of fun, festivity and recognition within the TLR and the racing leg, Lotus Challenge. This will take place at the Piston Ring Club on Saturday 26 November 2016 from 18h00.
Our creative masters of turning the venue into a magic wonderland will be at it again. A huge “Thank You” in anticipation, to Lauren and Colleen for offering their precious time once again. They would appreciate help and suggestions from members and/or their spouses. Also remember, CHILDREN ARE A PART OF THE CLUB AND ARE MOST WELCOME.
Anyone able to assist can contact me and I will pass it on to the ladies, or you have their details on the invite.
We will be turning the Piston Ring Club into a glitzy venue of BLACK & WHITE, with a touch of colour. Anyone that has not seen what they conjure up will be in for a surprise!!
We have also managed to keep prices down, despite the inflationary momentum that has engulfed the country.
We look forward to a positive response from our members, spouses and their friends to join us for a memorable and fun occasion which draws the curtain on a great 2016 TLR year. This is the one occasion the girls can dress up!!
Please RSVP to Lauren & Colleen As soon as possible to allow suitable arrangements and planning.
Price per person is same as 2015 – R250 per Adult and R125 per child under 16.

In a celebration of style and lightweight performance, and helping mark the 50th anniversary of the company’s famous Hethel site, Lotus has revealed the latest addition to its collection: the exclusive Elise 250 Special Edition.
Hi to all TLR members and friends
Within a couple of weeks we will be holding our annual and very successful Lotus Driver Training Day at Red Star Raceway. I know it is an event that many look forward to participating in and the fact that we have moved it to a new venue, Red Star Raceway, this year, will excite a lot of regulars that have become “used” to Zwartkops and equally it will be an adventure not to be missed by anyone that has not yet attended a Driver Training Day.
As usual, our regular racers will act as instructors and assist newcomers and any other participants with getting to grips with how to negotiate the various aspects of track driving, cornering, etc.
It promises to be exciting and very educational to all, even the old hands at driving. To the not so experienced drivers, it will be greatly beneficial to you to learn how to control your car in unfamiliar circumstances.
As usual, a number of people are making their cars available for “HOT LAPS” and again, you will experience the thrills of a race track with many of our talented race drivers.
Below are the details made available by Derek van der Merwe, this is the umpteenth DTD that he has organised. A massive THANK YOU to Derek, once again.
Details of the Driver training day for circulation to all the club members please.

Dear TLR members and enthusiasts
We are very pleased to inform you all of the planned Concours d’Elegance that is being held on 26 June 2016 at the Pretoria Botanical Gardens.
Before we go any further, THIS IS A FUN LOTUS EVENT, not the normal severe Concours’Etat that some car clubs participate in. No heavy technical requirements and meticulously prepared cars … just normal everyday Lotus cars, replicas and derivatives of Lotus cars. We will also try to celebrate the 50th year of existence of the Elan. (Entries permitted). Dr Wayne, you can even bring that dodgy black Evora jobbie to the day!!!
The judging will be done by some with a lot of Lotus knowledge, some with an eye for beauty, some with an eye for colour and style (eg a number a judges from the fairer sex will also help).
The Concours will also act as the June Breakfast Run … yes, it is a week later than normal but this was done because of 16 June being a holiday and could influence people to use that weekend to go away. The Gardens have 2 breakfast venues to pick from and both come highly recommended.
We can start arriving from around 08.00 onwards, those entered will be directed to a spot in the Gardens, others will park in the car park and entry fee to the Gardens is R30 per adult. Feel free to bring your own picnic hamper and ensure you bring chairs along.
Please take the time to read the attached newsletter regarding the event … it will explain the various classes and sequence of events.
We look forward to TLR filling up the Gardens on the day … and by latest 13.00 you can be on your way again to enjoy the remainder of your Sunday.
See you there!!
