I have a customer who wishes to sell his immaculate Classic 19** Birkin 7. I rebuilt the car for John completely in 2008, the only part that was not removed was the side ally cladding. The details of the rebuild are as follows:

A complete strip down to basic chassis.
Chassis cleaned and painted using Hammerite paint.
New windscreen glass.
Rear ally panel replaced with new panel.
New ally cladding in passenger and driver footwells.
All ally polished.
Birkin 13” Minilite” replica wheels.
New tyres.
Nose cone grill re-chromed.
New genuine leather upholstery, Classic “Tan” colour.
All fibre glass parts re-sprayed British Racing Green.
All front suspension components fully refurbed:
               Wishbones re-chromed
               New vesconite bushes fitted
               New ball joints
Brand new AVO shocks and springs purchased, fitted and installed all round.
New rose jointed rear trailing links with new rose joints.
Steering rack and column over hauled
New Birkin ally radiator fitted
New radiator fan
New radiator hoses
Fuel tank cleaned and serviced by Silverton Radiators
Brake calipers stripped and refurbed, new seals.
New brake pads, front and new shoes rear.
2 x New slave cylinders in rear brakes.
New front brake discs.
New brake master cylinder.
Strip clean and powder coat pedal box and pedals.
Steel braided brake hoses fitted in front
Wheel hubs and bearings stripped, inspected and cleaned, new bearing grease.
Complete rewire which included:
               New relays
               New switches
               New Birkin Headlights
               New taillights front and rear
               New fuse box
               New battery
New starter solenoid.
Starter motor stripped and rebuilt.
Classic Smiths instrumentation completely refurbed by Derek Knightingale
New engine mountings
Propshaft serviced and balanced.
New fuel hoses throughout the car.
Ford 4 speed gearbox completely overhauled.
Ford 1600 Crossflow Engine completely rebuilt by myself to the following spec:
               4 into one exhaust manifold ceramic coated.
               Distributor remanufactured and converted to electronic ignition.
               New HT leads and dizzy cap.
               New ram tubes for Weber 40 DCOE side draught carbs.
               New air filters.
               New studs and bobbins for carbs.
               Fabricated winged sump with baffles.
Cylinder head gas flowed and skimmed.
Hardened exh valve seats fitted for use of unleaded fuel.
New 1300 (40”) pistons and rings for higher compression, block bored to size accordingly.
Pistons pocketed for cam.
New camshaft fitted – Kent 244 Grind.
Block skimmed and pressure tested.
Crankshaft gound to 10”/10”
New big end and main bearings.
Conrods resized including new small end bushes.
New thrust washers.
New gaskets and seals.
New cam chain.
New cam bushes.
New water pump.
New Oil Pump.
New clutch and pressure plate.
Flywheel re-faced.
All parts balanced.

There are probably quite a few things that I have neglected to mention that were included in this rebuild project that don’t come to mind at the moment. This car is a beautiful replica of a Classic period “Lotus 7”, it really needs to be seen in the flesh to appreciate it’s pedigree. Engine
Ford 1600 Kent motor, 40 thou over size Mahle pistons. Gas flowed and ported head with twin 40 DCOE side draught
Webers, aluminium valve spring retainers, stage 2 cam, lightened flywheel and 4 into 1 branch manifold, with new stainless steel exhaust box. The motor has only done about 1000 km's since complete rebuild. Only just run in!

Gearbox: 4 speed ‘Bullit’ box

Suspension
Front: Triumph double wishbones with coil spring shocks, anti-roll bar and discs.
Rear: Coil spring shocks, Salisbury 3.89 diff, drum brakes.

Interior: Full dashboard instrumentation, seats and centre console recently re-upholstered in light grey leather cloth. Comes with tonneau cover.

Wheels are 13 inch ‘Minilite’ look-a-likes front and rear.
Tyres are 185/70R13 all round.

A lot of time, passion and effort went into this build. I have a full build dairy of the car from the cassis up to the completed car.

The Chassis, fibreglass body work and aluminium panels was bought from Locost SA. I am busy with the licensing process and it will be registered for the road.

A stainless roll bar is also supplied with the car for those Sunday drives. The car has been on the track for track days and has done about 150km on the road.

Wanted: Ford (Posted 5 July 2010)

Left rear Window for 1987 Ford Cortina 3 Litre.

Someone that i know has a 1987 Ford Cortina 3 Litre. On Saturday his son was mowing the lawn and a stone shot into the garage and smashed the left rear window. Does anyone know where he can get a replacement window?
