Dennis McBeath from Alpine Developments makes their Dyno available to the club for a very modest fee. This is always an interesting day of running the clubs cars up on the Dyno. Some members have even managed to squeeze a few extra horses out of their cars on such days.
The Natal and Gauteng chapters of the BMW car club individually host a speed day at the Kyalami racetrack venue. These days are well attended by all members of the TLR, as it is not often that one gets the opportunity to drive around an International Grand Prix Circuit at full speed. The object of the day is to try and achieve the fastest time of the day. Qualified race instructors are available on such days should one feel the need for instruction. Many of the racing and non-racing members have left these days feeling far more confident with their driving capabilities. On many occasions TLR members have achieved the fastest time of the day beating the extremely high spec machines such as BMW's with Superchargers/Turbo's and Nitrous, as well as four wheel drive Subaru's.
In addition to this, the club occasionally hires a venue such as Rackrite Raceway in Meyerton, and puts together a day of driver instruction. These days are aimed at improving all driving techniques and skills of all the members (road and race cars). Discussions surrounding the setup of the cars and also often discussed on such days. Fully qualified instructors are also available to give instruction.
A swop meet was held in the past, this gave members a chance to empty their garages (much to the delight of their wives) and display and sell/swop items that they did not require, amongst each other. The items included magazines, memorabilia and a wide selection of car parts etc. The day was a great success, with a braai being held afterwards.
